The Africa Climate Summit starts on Monday 4th-6th September, in Nairobi, Kenya. Leaders from African countries will gather to discuss how to deal with climate change. Here are some important things they will discuss:

1. Money for Adaptation:

Climate disasters are costing African countries a lot of money. They need $124 billion every year by 2030 to adapt to these changes, but they’re only getting $28 billion. They want more money to help them adjust to the changing climate.

2. More Clean Energy:

Africa needs to invest in clean energy like solar and wind power. Right now, they’re not getting enough money for it. They need $133 billion each year to meet their clean energy goals, but they’re only getting $9.4 billion. They want more investments in clean energy.

3. Valuable Minerals:

The world needs minerals for things like electric cars and renewable energy. Africa has a lot of these minerals, like copper and lithium. They want to use these minerals to grow their economies and help fight climate change.

4. Fixing Climate Finance:

African countries need a lot of money to fight climate change, but they’re not getting enough. They need $1.6 trillion between 2022 and 2030, but they’re only getting $30 billion. They want more money to help them deal with the impacts of climate change.

5. Carbon Markets:

Some countries use carbon markets to pay for efforts to reduce emissions. But these markets might not be working well. Some organizations think there are better ways to protect nature and fight climate change.

6. Young Voices:

Preceding the Africa climate summit is the the Africa youth climate assembly , also taking place in Nairobi from 1st to 4th September. Young people and local communities want their voices heard in these discussions. They have good ideas and want to be part of the solutions.

7. Green Energy Transition:

Leaders will talk about using more green energy instead of fossil fuels. They want to make sure that Africa gets more investments in renewable energy.

This summit is a chance for African leaders to work together and find solutions to the challenges posed by climate change.
